Oooops!

It is my nickname, afterall- "Ooops Annie," my family calls me. I don' t think I could get through motherhood without this oops. (although Reed always is hoping I will !) Christopher and I ran to the post office to mail one letter that I wanted to make certain I had enough postage on. The PO is only about a mile from our house- no problem.....we did our business and got back out to the car, when Christopher showed an interest in my car keys (as he ususally does.) He held onto them while I buckled him in the car. I proceeded to take the keys from him and drop them in the front seat (all routine you see!) I shut his door, (do you see where this is going?) I pulled the latch on my door.....it was locked. Frantic I go back to CR's door- no love.......The other side of the car, nothing.....the back hatch door......you've got to be joking! Now comes the kicker- I realize I've got to call AAA.....so I reach for the phone......nothing. I left the house realizing I did not have the phone only to say to my myself, "eh your just going to the PO and right home- not needed!" How could I have done this! Christopher was locked inside the car with the keys in the front seat. Now it just looked as if I had left my child in the car, while I quickly did my business. I darted back inside the PO looking for a good samaritan who carried a cell phone. All the while leaving CR inside the locked car- (No one could get to him -right??! AHHH) Two lovely ladies waited with me the whole time we tried AAA (which was going to be as much as a hour) and we call 911 who promptly sent a fire truck......and the paramedics!!What a mess I'd caused. All said and done Christopher did not panic at all he was good for about the first 1/2 hour while they tried with hangers to open my door. Christopher finally had it and began crying- not hard just whiny crying. I think if he had been crying super hard- I would have made them break a window to get to him! Luckily the hanger trick got the door open! So the firefighter saved the damsel in distress and the child was handed a teddy bear. Before the men left they took my name and address and said if it happens again it would cost $3,000 and then he looked at me and smiled!!
Here's Christopher and his teddy bear!!

Oh Annie,
I can totally empathise with you. I'm sure that Amy doesn't remember this, but I did this same thing in St. George with Jerry David. I thought that it would be such a nice Auntie thing to do, to take him to the store. I was driving Amy's car and she had the nifty auto-lock on her keys too. I needed two hands to buckle the little bugger in, so I threw my purse (with my phone) and the keys into the front seat. Good idea? Not so much. Luckily it was only 85 degrees that day. Amy was stranded at home because I had her car, so she was a little freaked. David was a real sport. As long as I was making funny faces at him he was doing ok. He did start to look a little worried after 30-45 minutes of me not getting back in the car. Poor little Christopher. He still looks a little traumatized in this pic.

I think this is normal. I locked the girls in the car in San Diego while visiting my parents. It was hot and I was panicked, but luckily my grandma happened to show up about 20 minutes later and she had keys. I don't think I have ever been so freaked out - I thought they would get too hot and die! Glad that everything is all right.
